Riding the Rails
Marin's Historic Trains

Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, 1:30–3pm*
Northwestern Pacific Railroad presentation by historian and author Fred Codoni.
Location: San Rafael City Council Chambers, 1400 5th Ave.

Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, 1:30–3pm*
Railroads in Our Backyards presentation by train historian Richard Torney.
Location: San Rafael City Council Chambers, 1400 5th Ave.

*3–5pm extended museum visiting hours following both presentations.

Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, 3–4:30pm
Panel discussion and presentation on train modeling.
Location: San Rafael City Council Chambers, 1400 5th Ave.

Panelists will talk about how to create train models, with historic models on-hand to view. Bill Kaufman, Jim Providenza, Ed Merrin, and Chuck Ciaccio will explore the varied aspects involved in railroad modeling, including the historical research and inspired stories behind the trains. Topics and train models on display will include G-scale (garden railroad), HO-scale, N-scale, Z-scale, and trains from the Northwestern Pacific Railroad.
Presented in partnership with the San Rafael Public Library.

Train Songs and Stories
San Rafael City Librarian David Dodd wil sing and play his banjo at two special story times for young children and their parents.

Monday, Mar. 24, 2008, 7–7:30pm

San Rafael Public Library, 1100 E Street
Dodd will perform with children’s librarian Margaret Stawowy.

Tuesday, Mar. 25, 2008, 7–7:30pm
Pickleweed Library, 50 Canal Street, San Rafael
Dodd will be joined by librarian Linda Kenton for a bilingual Spanish and English story time.

Bay Area Garden Railway Society (BAGRS) activity day in Boyd Park
Saturday, Mar. 29, 2008, 11am–4pm

In addition to an exciting array of model trains and railroads on display in the park, activities include a museum treasure hunt, train stories, family photos, and children’s crafts.
Presented in conjunction with BAGRS and the San Rafael Public Library.

Other events for train enthusiasts of all ages to be announced.

Parking is available to Museum visitors on weekdays after 5pm and weekends all day at Westamerica Bank and Circle Bank, 5th Avenue and B Street.
