Second Tuesday MHM Lecture Series -
Join the Marin History Museum for a fascinating lecture series featuring prominent local historians.
This series will be every second Tuesday at 7pm, and be hosted at either the Marin History Museum or
at another location to be announced soon. This series runs from January through May 2012. Topics and
speakers to be announced soon. Tickets - General Admission $10 or MHM members $5.
Saturday, January 14th, 4:15pm - Smith Ranch Road: Then and Now -
Due to such popular demand, join us again for this lecture this Saturday! Marcie Miller, local historian and MHM volunteer, will present the fascinating story of the short,
but historically significant, Smith Ranch Road in San Rafael, that now reaches from Highway 101 east to
McInnis Park. Marcie will share countless photographs and stories about the people who lived and worked
in the area, as well as the road's different uses as a Chinese laborers village, a rock quarry, a ranch,
a main stop on the railroad, and a Nike Missile Site. This lecture will be at our museum at 1125 b street in San Rafael beginning at 7:00pm.
Tuesday, February 21, 7:00pm - Collecting and Collections Care Panel -
This panel brings together three experts who will cover the how-to of collecting, as well as hands-on help
for the long term care of objects. Attendees may bring a small object from their personal collections which
the experts will examine and answer questions. Stephen Turner from Bonhams auction house is a seasoned
professional appraiser of personal property: fine art, antiques and residential contents. Margaret Geiss-Mooney,
an art conservator with over 30 years of experience, will provide tips on how to care for your col-lections.
She stresses common-sense solutions. Doug DeFors is the Collections Manager at the MHM and is a well versed in
art conservation, care and preservation of artifacts of all kinds. 7:00pm,

Coming on March 8th, your chance to find out what your families heirlooms are worth. Bonhams and Butterfields appraisers are making a special appearance in Marin to value your antiques. More information coming in January.
Garden Party in Honor of the Bridge's 75th Anniversary -
Join us on May 6th from 11am-3pm at the Boyd Gate House for games, crafts, prizes, trivia, music, dancing, and merriment as we celebrate this milestone for the Bay Area's most prominent landmark. This event is free but donations gratefully accepted.
