Stories of World War II: Making History Come Alive

The Marin History Museum thanks guest curator Kelly Brisbois, St. Mark’s School history teacher Mike Fargo, his 8th grade students and the participants who produced the exhibit Stories of World War II: Making History Come Alive. The exhibition ended its successful, year-long run with a closing reception on October 29, 2005.

Stories of World War II brought together the personal accounts of local veterans, Holocaust survivors and interned Japanese-Americans. The exhibit included videotaped oral histories conducted by the students, as well as models, artifacts and memorabilia loaned by the veterans and survivors. The exhibit provided a way for the students to explore media technology, physical artifacts and, most importantly, to explore their elders’ experiences to understand history in a deeper, more personal way than textbooks allow.

Copies of the oral histories are available for viewing in the Museum library. Contact Jocelyn Moss at (415) 454-8538 ext. 2, or jocelyn@marinhistory.org.
