Future of MHM
Introduction to the new Marin
History Museum
The Marin History Museum will begin a new chapter with the opening of our new museum. It will be nestled into the hillside of
Boyd Park next to the Boyd Gate House, our long-time home. Special architectural
features will include a beautiful Victorian-style glass atrium,
two exterior landscaped terraces, and a rooftop garden which will
connect with Boyd Park. Adjacent gardens, courtyards and plaza will
provide a welcoming area for all to enjoy Marin's outstanding climate
and natural beauty.
Unique to other history exhibitions in the region, the Marin History
Museum will tell stories about the past that include a contemporary
perspective, making the Museum more relevant to today's visitor.
Stories about Marin's founding families and businesses, the environmental
movement, the movie and recording industries and much more will
be presented through a stunning combination of interactive displays,
graphics, maps, artifacts and audio narratives. Marin County's own
Academy
Studios (based in Novato) is designing and fabricating the exhibits
for our new museum.
The museum will also feature changing exhibits of topical interest,
a multimedia room, and a variety of programs, making each visit
to the Marin History Museum a fresh experience. And you won't want
to miss our fabulous Museum Store! Click here for a description of the
new permanent exhibit.
This is such an exciting time for the Marin History Museum. Please
join us in preserving our past and building our future!
