Changing Exhibit Gallery

The Museum’s temporary exhibit space will complement the main gallery and will be used to create exhibits that explore particular topics in more depth. Temporary exhibits are a great way to showcase the museum’s artifacts, display loaned objects and collaborate with other organizations to create new experiences that encourage visitors to come back again and again. Here are just a few of the possibilities for the new Marin History Museum’s temporary exhibit gallery.

Pioneer Life
What was the journey like for early Marinites? How did they get here? What did they bring with them? What were they looking for?

Alta California
What is the history of the Spanish in Marin County? What was the Mission San Rafael Arcángel like, and how did it alter the fabric of the region? How has Spanish culture infused the county, up to the present day? This exhibit will be bilingual.

Going Organic in Marin
Marin County has been an innovator in sustainable agriculture for more than 30 years. Locals and tourists alike will learn how Marin County considered the model for its agricultural efforts, which prompted a visit by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall in 2005.

Marin Landscapes
Painters, poets and photographers have long captured the beauty and history of Marin’s landscapes. See these works of art over time, and compare them with Marin’s landscape today.

Camping & Tourism
Come along on an early 20th century campout to Mt. Tamalpais. Set up camp, plan a drive or horseback ride, and write a postcard home.

CSI: Marin:
Marin may be a safer place than most, but there are some infamous crimes that have happened here. This popular exhibit includes the courthouse shootout, the trailside killer and several of San Quentin’s most notorious inmates.

Marin Rocks & Rolls
Meet Marin’s rock legends and see some of the old hangouts and hotspots. Tour “The Plant,” where countless hit records have been recorded and produced, and listen to great songs of the rock era.

Kids in Marin
Come and see how kids have entertained themselves through time. Learn how to play jacks, make a paper sailboat, and cut paper dolls. You’ll find stories and pictures of kids from Marin, and find out what some of them are doing now.
