Since 1935, the Marin History Museum has been collecting the histories of local families, accepting and caring for over 20,000 artifacts and putting together an astounding collection of more than 200,000 photographs. Since 1959, the Museum has been proud to call the historic Boyd Gate House on B Street in San Rafael its home.
As discussed in recent issues of our eNewsletter, this year we’ve made some changes at the Museum, including the successful relocation of our Collections & Research facility in Novato which reduces our rent by more than half. We’ve also expandedour strong relationship with Dominican University through the Federal Work Study program, in which three(3) Dominican students work at the Museum on a weekly, part-time basis, all funded by the Federal government. And we’re proud to say that some long-ago former employees have recently made their way back to us to volunteer their professional museum services experience to help us along. It is taking a village.
We are thankful today for the guiding support that Marinites have shown for the Museum. The interest and perceived value of Marin history that’s been expressed by the people of Marin more than affirms our reason for being. We continue to developsome exciting plans for future events. And as we look to that future, we also honor our traditions, and welcome everyone to our signature, annual Holiday Party at the Boyd Gate House on December 5th (details on back cover).
Seventy-eight years are an important milestone for the Museum. For the first time in a number of years we are thriving as an organization. We have been able to establish new and strengthen existing relationships within the Marin community. And we are honored by the organizations reaching out to help us survive another 78 years. Without them and without you we simply wouldn’t be here today.
With transparency and a commitment to community collaboration, we thank you for your past and future support, and hope that we can count on your continued support as we move forward, for generations to come.
