"History of San Rafael, CA"
This episode looks at the history of San Rafael, California.
Incorporated in 1874, San Rafael lies in a beautiful valley
twenty minutes north of San Francisco. The native Miwok
Indians took notice of the regions fish and game and the later
mission fathers found the healthy climate and abundance of
natural resources attractive. With its natural beauty and
moderate climate San Rafael continues to attract many today.

"The Bear Flag Revolt"
In June 1846, during the "Bear Flag Revolt" for
Californian Independence, a fatal battle occurred between a
troop of American Bear Flaggers and the governing Mexican
forces at what is now Olompali State Park in Northern Marin
County. In the end, a number of Mexican troops were
wounded and one soldier lay dead, marking the first battle of
the Mexican-American War fought in California.
