MARIN HISTORY MUSEUM HOSTS 'PHOTO DAY' FEBRUARY 11 FOR MARIN GENERATIONS
CLUB
SAN RAFAEL, CA - In its first step to create a Marin History Family Photo
Album, the Marin History Museum is hosting a "Photo Day" on
February 11, to gather old family photos from members of the Marin Generations
Club. History Museum officials are looking for candid snapshots from parties
and gatherings, formal studio portraits, family businesses and proprietors,
vacations and holidays, weddings, reunions and other celebrations, newborns
and kids playing and homes, cars, pets with their owners. Reproductions
of the original photos will be used in a computer-based exhibit at the
Museum. Generations Club members are asked to call 454-8538 Ext. 3 or
send an email to Crissa@marinhistory.com to schedule a one-hour appointment
anytime on Saturday, February 11 at the Museum in downtown San Rafael.
The Marin History Museum is located in the historic Boyd Gate House in
Boyd Park, 1125 B Street in San Rafael. Visit www.marinhistory.org
"This is our first 'call to arms' for historical photos that capture
the history of Marin County through its residents," said Merry Alberigi,
Executive Director of the Marin History Museum. "We're starting with
the Generations Club members, since we know these families have been part
of the fabric of Marin for three generations. However, we plan to announce
opportunities for families throughout the County to submit photos to us
to be included in our Family Photo Album."
Ultimately the photos will be permanently added to the Museum's collection,
safely preserved and available for generations to come. The Museum also
plans to make at least part of the Family Photo Album available on the
website, with members' permission.
The Marin History Museum is currently raising funds to build the first
state-of-the-art museum in Marin County. The new Museum will be a 7,500-square-foot
facility with a 14-car parking garage plus 5,900 square feet of archival
storage. It will feature exhibits about Marin's founding families and
businesses, the environmental movement, the movie and recording industries
and much more through a combination of graphics, maps, mannequins, artifacts,
audio narratives and a number of interactive displays. The exhibits are
being designed and fabricated by award-winning Academy Studios. There
will be 1,500 square feet of temporary exhibit space that can feature
traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian and other institutions.
