MARIN HISTORY MUSEUM INTRODUCES "MARIN STORIES" SPEAKER SERIES
SAN RAFAEL, CA -- The Marin History Museum has announced a new speaker
series, Marin Stories, that feature the intimate tales, interesting people
and legends of the land that make Marin distinctive. Authors, history
buffs and literary enthusiasts will share their stories in readings that
will be held the first Thursday of every month, beginning in February
and running through June, 2006. Marin Stories, which is free to the public,
will be presented at Boyd Gate House, 1125 B Street in San Rafael from
6-7 pm. There is free parking after 5 pm at WestAmerica Bank, Fifth and

Books will be available for purchase at the Marin History Museum and may
be signed by the featured author. Marin History Museum members receive
a 10 % discount. Visitors are encouraged to come early and view the exhibits
on display at the Boyd Gate House.
Thursday, February 2, 6-7 pm. Susan Snyder, Head of Access Services at
the Bancroft Library and author of Bear in Mind: The California Grizzly,
will revisit the days when grizzly bears roamed the land in and around
Marin County.
Thursday, March 2, 6-7 pm. Noted Bay Area photographer Rondal Partridge,
who created indelible images of Steep Ravine and is the son of Imogene
Cunningham, will be joined by daughter Elizabeth Partridge, co-author
of Quizzical Eye: The Photography of Rondal Partridge, to relay "behind
the camera" stories and techniques for capturing the perfect shot.
Thursday, April 6, 6-7 pm. Point Reyes artist Tom Killion, illustrator
for High Sierra of California and an upcoming book on Mt. Tamalpais, will
share slides of his woodcuts and reveal personal accounts about his inspirations
and work technique.
Thursday, May 4, 6-7 pm. Obscure details about the Italian American internment,
some of which took place on Angel Island, will be divulged by Lawrence
DiStatsi, editor of Una Storia Segrets: The Secret History of Italian
American Evacuation and Internment during World War II.
Thursday, June 1, 6-7 pm. Santa Clara University English professor Fred
White will share poetic revelations about Muir Woods in his newly released
novel, The Essential John Muir, part of the California Legacy Series.
The Marin History Museum is currently raising funds to build the first
state-of-the-art museum in Marin County. The new Museum will be a 7,500-square-foot
facility with a 14-car parking garage plus 5,900 square feet of archival
storage. It will feature exhibits about Marin's founding families and
businesses, the environmental movement, the movie and recording industries
and much more through a combination of graphics, maps, mannequins, artifacts,
audio narratives and a number of interactive displays. The exhibits are
being designed and fabricated by award-winning Academy Studios. There
will be 1,500 square feet of temporary exhibit space that can feature
traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian and other institutions.
