Marin's Own "Daughter of Fortune": The Life & Adventures of Louise Arner Boyd
Tuesday, March 27, 2007
7:008:30 pm
Join Dawn Laurant, Curator of the exhibition Louise Boyd: Marin's Arctic Explorer, for a fascinating and visually compelling presentation about one of Marin County's true "daughters of fortune." Born to great wealth in San Rafael, Louise Boyd opted out of a traditional privileged lifestyle by following her ambitions to become an Arctic explorer. Overcoming the challenges of sub-zero temperatures, polar bears, and rogue icebergs, Boyd made eight Arctic expeditions and became the first woman to fly over the North Pole. Her choice to brave new frontiers inspires comparisons with the main character Eliza Sommers in Isabel Allende's Daughter of Fortune.

Attendees are invited to come early to visit the Louise Boyd exhibit currently on display at the Marin History Museum.
